Review of Doctor G: Not 'Male Touch,' But If This Goes On, Ayushmann Khurrana May Lose The 'Audience's Touch'

Ayushmann Khurrana's failure to achieve the G-spot (Generalist Spot) with his film prior to the pandemic makes me a little sad.

What’s Good: The very first hour... Because of how much the movie resembles an Ayushmann Khurrana movie.

What’s Bad: The second hour is bad. Because of the farcical theatrical choices in the tale.

Toilet Break: Whenever nothing amusing is happening, go!

Watch or Not?: You can see Ayushmann Khurrana, but we don't advocate seeing the movie.

Language: Hindi

Available On: Theatrical release

Runtime: 124 Minutes or 2 Hours

User Rating:

Dr. Uday Gupta (Ayushmann Khurrana) and his best friend Chaddi (Abhay Chintamani Mishr) pray for him to acquire Orthopedics as his medical branch in his postgraduate programme while talking about how "I'm not Kabir Singh" & liberal over chai. However, life had other ideas and she decided to study gynaecology, which, in the opinion of Uday's mother, is still superior to "tatti-peshaab" (pathology) (Sheebha Chaddha).

After meeting a group of girls, Uday initially experiences harassment from them but soon settles down and befriends Dr. Fatima (Rakul Preet). Uday still desires to return to Orthodontics, but he repeatedly fails to complete mundane chores, aggravating the senior physician Nandini (Shefali Shah). The core of the rest of the novel revolves around how his hate-hate relationship with the medical branch changes into love-love while teaching him some crucial life lessons.

Doctor G Movie Review: Script Analysis

Now let's concentrate on the writing team's qualifications for the movie: The dialogue was written by Sumit Saxena, the story was written by Saurabh Bharat and Vishal Wagh, and the screenplay was put together by Sumit Saxena, Saurabh Bharat, Vishal Wagh, and Anubhuti Kashyap. Four persons have thus come together to manage the film's plot, and this is where the difficulty arises because it is obviously a case of "too many minds f*ck the case."

It’s two distinct movies. The first half will provide you with a proper "humor/drama" mix, but the second half will make you wonder if you truly liked the first hour so much to like this overall. Where credit is due, it's incredibly funny because there are several instances that will make you laugh out loud. But when the drama intensifies, it fails to elicit the appropriate amount of emotion for the audience to connect with the story. There are some animated messages (scoreboard) that flash up but are pointless and should have been ignored.

Review of the film Doctor G: Star Performance

Oh, my dear Ayushmann! I feel a little sorry for this man since he isn't able to market his movie as effectively as he did to before the outbreak. Yes, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui was a commendable effort, but somewhere in the midst of talking about societal issues, we lost sight of the Khurrana we once knew. Without a question, he continues to amaze with his acting abilities, and this movie shows that, but the storyteller is secretly rushing to develop concepts that could'sell' well while neglecting the true goal of keeping you engaged the entire time.

One of the characters who doesn't really feel the impact of the lacklustre second half is Rakul Preet's quiet yet funny Fatima. Instead of the sanctimonious at-your-face drama, the focus should have been on her complex relationship with Ayushmann. Shefali Shah and her brilliant presence give Dr. Nandini's school of thought the necessary weight, yet towards the conclusion, the character journey is still quite underwhelming.

Sheeba Chaddha portrays a sweet mother who develops feelings for a man, and her cunning ways of interacting with the character make it easier to relate to her in the situation. One of the finest and worst aspects of the movie was Abhay Chintamani Mishr. I wanted to see so much more of him developing the incredible humour he had with Ayushmann, but he remained one of those supporting characters who the authors didn't seem to care too much about. The support offered by Shraddha, Priyam Saha, Ayesha Kaduskar, and Indraneil Sengupta is adequate, nothing more, nothing less.

Review of the film Doctor G: Direction and Music

Anubhuti Kashyap makes the shift from short films to features following a whimsical try with Gulshan Devaiah's Afsos & afsos. There are hiccups, but not enough for me to believe that she can do more than this.

Newton is the only song that reminded me of Amit Trivedi, and I would absolutely add it to my "A Mixed Bag Of Emotions" collection. Other than that, none of the songs had much of an effect on the narrative in comparison to my playlist.

Review of the film Doctor G: The Last Word

Don't be foolish because you're not, Uday, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, tells Kavya, played by Ayesha Kaduskar, in a scene. & there you have it, in one sentence, my exact feelings about this movie.

3 out of 5 stars
