The domestic (North American) box office opening weekend of "Avatar 2," the follow-up to James Cameron's all-time highest grossing film "Avatar" (2009), has been predicted to bring in between $175 million and $200 million, or approximately 3X the opening weekend of the original film.

The movie's recent confirmation that its 16 December release date in China has greatly increased expectations for its global box office performance. According to Hollywood Industry market experts, "Avatar: The Way of Water" is having one of the largest debuts in China, with some estimating the film will make $200 million at the box office.

For a worldwide start of $550 million, the Disney film franchise is now expecting a $350 million to $400 million foreign opening weekend start. Even $2 billion, which is the required minimum for the film to break even and make a profit, seems like a stroll in the park. The movie is a sure-fire $1 billion grosser.

On December 16, "Avatar: The Way of Water" will be released in India in various languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
