In his 89th ‘Mann ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered his interaction with Atsushi Matsuo and Kenji Yoshi, both of whom are involved with the Tem Production Company in Japan. "This business is associated with the 1993 Japanese animated Ramayana film. Yugo Sako Ji, a highly well-known Japanese film director, was involved with this production. He learned about the Ramayana for the first time roughly 40 years ago, in 1983," Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked.

A new generation will soon enjoy the animated adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana that recognized the story's larger moral concepts. FilmVilla2022 looks more closely at the making of the film.

In 1983, Japanese producer and filmmaker Yugo Sako first learned about the Hindu epic Ramayana.

He was moved by the Ramayana, which prompted him to pursue extensive investigation. Additionally, he read 10 Japanese translations of the Ramayana. He kept going after this. Additionally, he wanted to put it in animation. Indian animators were a huge assistance to him. They instructed him on the Indian traditions and practices that were portrayed in the movie, according to PM Modi.

He originally came to India to film "The Ramayana Relics," a documentary about an archaeological excavation close to Ayodhya, but he became enthralled by the story of Prince Ram's triumph over the forces of evil, and as his study of the epic progressed, he realized it was more than a legend: it included an entire life philosophy and had cultural implications.

He studied 10 separate versions of Valmiki’s Ramayana, all in Japanese, after reading it in Japanese. Despite his expertise as a documentary director, he thought that only an animated medium could really represent the majesty and grandeur of the Ramayana. He was reported in the newspaper as stating, "Because Ram is God, I decided it was appropriate to show him in animation, rather than by an actor."

Sako wanted to be extra cautious as a foreigner to stay faithful to the epic, so he spent months researching the tale, looking at clothing and architectural details, and talking with scholars, archaeologists, and historians.

According to accounts, director Sako has been affected by religion and spirituality since he was a little boy. When he was three years old, when he was born in central Japan in 1928, he became an orphan. He was brought up in a Zen Buddhist monastery by monks to become a priest in the future.

He has recalled attending religious instruction for local children, and he particularly enjoyed collecting the cards used in the lectures that featured the life of Buddha. He studied in Buddhist Studies in college, spent time practicing asceticism at the Heirinji Zen Temple before realizing that the priesthood was not for him, returned to a regular life, and eventually formed Tokyo Cine Vision Ltd.
