The over three-decade-old mythological serial Ramayan, created by the late Ramanand Sagar, made a historic return to television by receiving the highest Hindi GEC ratings since 2015.
The evergreen series was rebroadcast on Doordarshan due to popular demand during the ongoing 21-day national lockdown. The second episode premiered on Saturday.
In four performances during the previous weekend, Ramayan attracted 170 million people, according to a report by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).
The Ramanand Sagar production also became the Hindi general entertainment space's most popular serial. Urban areas and megacities saw the highest ratings for the programme.
