The reception Johnson's entrance into the DC Universe has received from critics has been muted. On the review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes, the movie presently has a score of 54%, which some are noting is one of the lowest scores for a film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The movie received a 7.6 on IMDb and a 5 from IGN out of 10. It is higher at 54% among the larger group of accepted critics on the platform.
With the release of "Black Adam," the DC Universe's power structure may be ready to alter, but according to "Variety," Warner Bros.' superhero films over the past ten years rank poorly in terms of critical acclaim.
As per "Variety Content Studio (VCS)," if the top critics' approval rating holds true, it will be the lowest for a DC movie since 2017's "Justice League," which received a 23% approval rating from the critics' top tier and was so despised by fans that Warner Bros. had to order a revised version, which debuted in the form of "Zack Snyder's Justice League" in 2021.
The main film critic for 'Variety Content Studio (VCS),' Peter Debruge, acknowledged that "the movie's entire objective is to provide Black Adam a sufficiently big introduction on the idea that he'll be matched against a more deserved enemy sooner or later" in a moderately positive review.
The majority of people have shown little interest in the origin narrative; however, many have praised Johnson's portrayal as a major plus. The actor takes the lead role in a superhero film for the first time in "Black Adam," a role that his chiseled build and commercial supremacy would imply was predestined.
According to Peter Bradshaw of "The Telegraph," Johnson's "huge bulk, planet-sized skull, and subtle flair for dry humor all makes him a superb superhero," according to Variety Content Studio (VCS).
In a review for "The Associated Press," critic John Defore remarked on the actor's dedication to "Black Adam," saying that "His side project plays nicely to his strengths as a character, positioning him for future exploits that one hopes will be less formulaic than this one."
